Technology & process
Inside the
Blackhole system.
A closer look at how connected processing, recovery and environmental control systems work together.

01 / Energy recovery
Capture useful heat
Thermal recovery systems can transfer process heat through heat exchangers into a suitable energy conversion system. The appropriate configuration depends on the project’s waste characteristics and operating conditions.

02 / Cooling
Control the transition
Controlled cooling and stabilisation prepare processed material for handling, testing and assessment of potential reuse.

03 / Emission treatment
Treat process gases
A multi-stage approach can include gas cooling, scrubbing and particulate collection. The treatment train is designed around the selected process and its emission characteristics.

04 / Monitoring
Make operations visible
Operational monitoring brings process information and environmental indicators together, supporting informed supervision and reporting.

Energy conversion
A considered route
to electricity.
Recovered thermal energy can be used with a suitable turbine and generator arrangement. Integration also considers power conditioning, local consumption and the requirements of any grid connection.
Energy output is project-specific. It depends on waste input, system configuration and plant operation.

Testing & verification
Reuse begins
with evidence.
Recovered residue is sampled and tested before an appropriate reuse route is selected. Assessment can include composition, leaching behaviour, stability and the requirements of the intended construction application.
- Representative sample collection
- Laboratory analysis and suitability assessment
- Selection of an appropriate reuse pathway
Project specification
The right system
starts with the right brief.
We discuss the following inputs before proposing a plant configuration.
- Waste input
- Daily quantity, composition and moisture
- Site
- Available land, access and receiving logistics
- Utilities
- Power, water and supporting infrastructure
- Recovery goals
- Materials, thermal energy and potential reuse
- Operations
- Operating schedule, personnel and monitoring
Your questions, answered
Understanding the system.
Does the system include waste separation?+
Yes. The integrated facility approach includes in-plant separation and material recovery. Feedstock preparation and handling are planned around the waste mix and selected processing equipment.
Is electricity generation included in every installation?+
Energy recovery is a configuration option assessed during project planning. It depends on the incoming waste, useful recoverable heat and the economics and needs of the site.
How are emissions managed?+
The brochure describes multi-stage emission treatment with gas treatment and particulate collection, supported by monitoring. Project-specific design and supporting documentation form part of the technical discussion.
Can all processed residue be reused?+
Reuse depends on material testing and the requirements of the proposed application. Cooling and stabilisation are followed by an assessment of suitability.
How do we select a plant capacity?+
Start by sharing your daily waste quantity, composition, available land and operating requirements. IEE can discuss an appropriate configuration for your project.
